
It's no wonder that there are many an abandoned sanatorium in North America. They were erected in the early 1900's primarily for the treatment of tuberculosis. The cure (prior to the discovery of antibiotics) was fresh clean air. As the antibiotics became the preferred treatment, many sanatoriums began to close. Now, they're just haunted urbex playgrounds.
