Holmesburg has an incredibly interesting history marked with prison dermatological experiments funded by DOW Chemical and Johnson & Johnson. One such experiment saw 70 prisoners injected with dioxin to test their chloracne product. Holmesburg was also the site of the double murder of both the Warden and Deputy Warden in 1973 during a prison riot.
