Mary is 89 years old, one year younger than her husband Bill. They met back in 1944 at a dance in Toronto. The venue name escapes me but it used to be located on Danforth and Broadview. They played country music there. By Mary's account, Bill was quite the player. He had a few viable options after the war had ended, or so the story goes. She feels humbled after all these years that Bill chose her.
But more than 65 years after they were married, they are still going strong. Mary doesn't talk as much as Bill, but when she does, I listen. Bill enjoys telling his life story; specific dates, years, and names are still so vivid in his mind. I don't know how he does it. He is a cancer survivor and has recently lost some of his vision due to glaucoma, but he is strong. They are wonderful people and the brief conversation we had was a truly enriching experience for me. I can only hope that one day I will have a bond that lasts the test of time.
This is my 2nd of 100 images from my ongoing 100 Friends project.
