I had originally uploaded this shot as "private" only so I could share the entire set with some people on the UER.ca forum. It is seeing the light of day now because it is being featured in this month's Panorama section of ReNew Magazine, Canada's Infrastructure Magazine. I get prime real estate right in the middle of the magazine, a double page spread. Last month, I had the same space with a shot I took from the Rozelle Tram Depot in Australia .
The 411 of the story is, the Chinese government indiscriminately decides that it needs to demolish entire city blocks full of apartment buildings. "Owners" are left with no choice really but to give in. However, some "nail houses" and their occupiers (aka "stubborn nails") refuse to leave in hopes of getting more compensation. In this apartment complex in Fuzhou, China, half of the apartment has been completely deconstructed, yet she refuses to leave; a stubborn nail.
