Detroit was the reason I got into urban exploration. I had seen a number of stunning, almost iconic photos on the internet of decaying buildings and abandoned businesses. Homes completely burnt out and boarded up. I also read stories of the great rise and fall of this beautiful city. I've been wanting to go for some time, but always made excuses. It was too far away. Too dangerous. I didn't know anyone locally. With the help of my friend Rob (aka Detroit Liger), I finally made it there and created my own iconic images. I escaped with a great respect of the city and its people. I will be back soon.
As for my first shot in my Project: Detroit series, we visit a local school gymnasium that gave me vertigo as I walked along warped the wooden floors. This gym was in near complete darkness, so I had to hold this pose for a full 30 seconds.
Detroit. Fucking. Rock. City.
