There was a lot of fear surrounding "the fence" at the G20. The public was told by the police chief that anyone who came within 5 metres of the fence could be searched -- or they risked being arrested. What they didn't tell you was that this in fact was a fabrication. The temporary Ontario Public Works Protection Act applied only within the confines of the fence.
I was out taking pictures of the perimeter with my friend Ronnie, when we were questioned and searched...despite not being within the fenced in area. Not a big deal you say? Though a small violation of my rights, I still feel this was an unwarranted search, and not to mention -- illegal. Two guys brandishing cameras is hardly reasonable grounds for a search. Perhaps they were concerned about the picture I was taking...
