Black Hoof: Food in All Its Glory

It's the weekend again and I've prepared a little bit of a blog entry that isn't the typical 'one shot' of daily photographic mediocrity. Yes, today there are many acts of mediocrity.

I had been hearing a lot about this restaurant in Toronto called the Black Hoof and simply had to try it. Here is my story in pictures. Most of the shots were taken at 1600 or 3200 ISO, so lots of graininess (and some focusing issues) -- my apologies.

Part of the blackboard menu at the Black Hoof. The other half was so delicious it had to be censored.

The charcuterie board was full of house-made cured meats including foie gras, terrine, guanciale, duck liver mousse, spicy chorizo, sopressata flecked with blueberries, and several other cured meats. Thanks to my friend Susan for remembering all of this.

Roasted bone marrow served with sea salt and crostini. I could have sucked this all up in seconds.

And the main event -- the raw horse sandwich! This open faced horse tartare melted in your mouth like a fine piece of high grade red tuna sashimi. Hands down the best sandwich I have ever had in my life (I've had many).

Haven't had enough meat? How's about a bacon and chocolate bread pudding to wash everything else down? This semi-sweet dish was the perfect supplement to a very memorable meal.

***Missing from the pictures was the tongue on brioche. Also fantastic.
